Visakhapatnam (Vizag), the jewel on the East Coast laced with pristine beaches and enchanting Eastern Ghats on the other side with rich cultural past is an ideal destination. A small fishing village during the Kalinga period has grown into a Cosmopolitan City and the largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The strategic location made Vizag the head quarters of Eastern Naval Command. The start of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has changed the landscape of the city. The natural port of Visakhapatnam is renowned for being home to the oldest shipyard in all of India, and with a plethora of manmade wonders and natural spectacles, Visakhapatnam is a must-visit tourist destination in South India.
Bheemunipatnam, second oldest municipality in the country which neighbours Visakhapatnam and journey on the coast is nature’s delight. Religious places like Simhachalam, Arasavilli, Srimukhalingam, Ramanarayanam, etc along with Buddhist sites showcases the rich traditional heritage of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Located a short distance away from Visakhapatnam, Araku Valley is one of the prime attractions of Vizag. Situated at a lofty 910 metres above sea level, Araku Valley is a hill station replete with gushing waterfalls, crystal clear streams, and lush green gardens. Nestled amidst the Ananthagiri Hills in Araku Valley, the Borra Caves are over thousands of years old and are the biggest among all the caves found in India. Made entirely of natural karstic limestone, the caves are kaleidoscopic in nature. The Katiki , Kothapallli and other nearby water falls in this region are a sight to bewitch. Lambasingi, Kashmir of AP surrounded by misty valleys and lush plantations is a weekend sojourn.
Visakhapatnam was also one of the education hubs with many century old educational institutes made it also the learning capital in this part of the country. Andhra Medical College / King George Hospital started in July, 1923 is the seventh oldest medical college in the country and many alumni have reached pinnacles of glory. The Department of Neurology started in 1977 is one of the oldest Neurology Departments which is hosting the IANCON 2024 after twenty years after initially hosting the IANCON2003.
